Accessibility information for AY Online

AY Online aims to provide comprehensive online information for Aylesbury.
As part of our service we aim to make our information accessible to everyone irrecspective of any disability or imparment.

Our key accessibility aims.

We aim to make our website usable for all our customers by following standards developed by the World Wide Web Consortium
The WWW Consortium rates accessible sites from Level A to Level AAA, we aim to develop our site to Level AA and wherever possible, to make it more accessible to all users. Our aim is to enable visitors to access services and information in a way that does not disadvantage them whatever their access or ability needs.

We acknowledge that we have not achieved all of our aims in this area, but we will continue to develop our site to provide the highest standards available to us.

In order to ensure our website has a firm foundation, we will:

  • Keep pages simple, using white backgrounds behind text and universal layout
  • Use Arial font (or a similar font) in clear contrasting colours, mainly black and purple for body text and avoid the use of small type
  • Use consistent presentation, style, colour and language throughout - unless this presents difficulties in conveying meaning
  • Avoid reliance on colour to convey information, however colour is sometimes used to highlight certain areas e.g. links
  • Ensure simple and consistent navigation
  • Produce content that is easy to understand.
  • Keep images usually in the right or left hand columns, away from the text in the centre of the page
  • Ensure people know when they are leaving our site if following a link, as a link will always open in a new window.
  • Maintain the site with up-to-date and useful information
  • Avoid the use of tables for layout purposes and where we use tables try to make them accessible with a table summary.

Our aim is to meet the World Wide Web Consortium's (W3C) Web Accessibility Initiative Level AA on as many pages as we are able dependent on budget, technical ability and resources. We will continue to develop our site to reach the highest level of accessibility at the earliest opportunity.

Larger Text

The site has been designed so that larger text should not affect the overall structure of the site.
We have used mainly black text on white backgrounds for maximum contrast.
Should you have any issues with difficulty reading text due to poor colour contrast, please contact us and we'll do our upmost to provide an alternative page that has a better contrast.
